CHICAGO — The American Writers Museum (AWM) launched its Writing Queer tour on June 5, inviting visitors to explore the museum through the lens of influential LGBTQ+ writers. This guided experience connects guests to queer writers throughout the exhibits, including authors Margaret Wise Brown, Maurice Sendak, James Baldwin, and many more who drew inspiration from their sexuality and gender identity.

The complimentary 3:30 p.m. tour is included with museum admission and runs Thursdays and Saturdays through June 28.

In addition to the special tour, the AWM has a number of resources available to help people discover, celebrate, and honor the vast contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and non-binary writers, both past and present.

Pride Month programming also includes:

  • Get Lit: The Musical - A Pride-themed happy hour for guests 21+ on Tuesday, June 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a night of fabulous fun featuring Showstoppers Trivia where your knowledge of musical theatre, queer Broadway icons, and show-stopping history takes center stage.  Part of AWM's monthly Get Lit series, each event offers attendees drinks, entertainment, and full access to the museum—all with a literary twist.
  • Free Museum Admission Day - Celebrate Father's Day at the museum with free entry on Sunday, June 16. AWM offers Free Admission Days on the third Sunday of every month.

Tickets for public events vary in price, but all include full access to museum exhibits. Learn more and register at AmericanWritersMuseum.org
